What is 5000 series aluminum alloy sheet?
The 5000 series alloy aluminum plate is also called the AL-Mg series alloy aluminum plate. As the name implies, it is an aluminum alloy with magnesium (Mg) as the main alloying element. The main characteristics of the 5000 series alloy aluminium plate are: 1. Low density (taking 5052 as an example, the density is 2.68); 2. The strength is higher than that of 1 and 3 series, which belongs to medium-strength aluminum alloy; 3. Good welding performance; 4. Durability The corrosion performance of the ocean atmosphere is good.
Due to the excellent performance of the 5 series alloy aluminum plate, it has become the most widely used alloy aluminum plate. 5000 series alloy aluminum sheets can be seen in everything from airplanes and ships to small mechanical parts.
5xxx series alloy aluminum sheet features
The 5-series aluminum plate has excellent corrosion resistance and is also known as marine grade aluminum. As the name suggests, the 5000 series aluminum alloys is often used as a shipbuilding material and has more contact with seawater. The 3 most popular commercial grades in the 5000 series are 5083, 5052 and 5754.
Grade 5083 aluminum sheet
Grade 5083 aluminum sheet is most commonly in the O temper. It has the highest strength of all non-heat treatable alloys, and is slightly less hard than 6082 in the 6000 series.
5083 aluminum chemical elements
Element | Mn | Fe | Mg | Si | Cu | Zn | Ti | Others | Al |
Content | 0.4-1.0 | 0.4 | 4.0-4.9 | 0.4 | 0.1 | 0.1 | 0.05-0.25 | ≤0.15 | Remain |
Corrosion resistance.
5083 grade aluminum offers truly outstanding chemical and atmospheric resistance. 5083 aluminum performs particularly well in seawater/salt water and is therefore often referred to as marine grade aluminum.
5083 welding performance
5083 grade aluminum has excellent weldability and retains most of its strength after welding
AL5083 cold working/forming
Grade 5083-O is suitable for bending, folding and cold working.
Grade 5052 aluminum sheet
The 5052 aluminum plate product is a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy, which is an AL-Mg alloy aluminum plate. It has high corrosion resistance, formability and durability, and also contains a small amount of manganese, chromium, beryllium, and titanium to improve stress resistance and Corrosion cracking ability.
Although not heat treatable, 5052 aluminum can be strengthened through a work hardening process (5052-H32).
Aluminum plate 5052 is known as the most widely used anti-rust aluminum.

Grade 5754 aluminum sheet
5754 Al-Mg alloy has similar properties to alloys 5154 and 5454. Of the three 5×54 alloys, 5754 has the lowest alloy content (highest percentage of aluminum). Aluminum plate 5754 is a forged alloy, which can be formed by rolling, extrusion and forging. It has excellent processability, excellent corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength and high weldability.
