What is Cold Forming Alu Alu Foil
Cold forming Alu Alu foil is a type of pharmaceutical packaging material used to protect drugs from external influences such as moisture, oxygen, and light. It consists of three layers: the outer layer made of aluminum, the middle layer made of PVC, and the inner layer made of aluminum.
The process of cold forming involves shaping the aluminum foil into a desired form without using heat, which helps maintain the integrity of the drug by preventing it from coming into contact with the PVC layer. This type of packaging is commonly used for tablets and capsules that are sensitive to moisture and oxygen.
Alloys of Cold Forming Alu Alu Foil
Cold forming Alu Alu foil is typically made from aluminum alloys that are specifically designed for pharmaceutical packaging. These alloys are chosen for their excellent barrier properties, formability, and compatibility with the drug products. Commonly used aluminum alloys for cold forming Alu Alu foil is AA 8021 and AA 8079. This alloys offer high strength, good formability, and excellent barrier properties against moisture, oxygen, and other external factors.

In the cold aluminum cold forming process, the aluminum-based laminate film is simply pressed into the mold via a die. The foil will stretch and retain its formed shape. These blister forms are called cold formed foil blisters. The main advantage of cold-formed foil blisters is that the use of aluminum provides an almost complete barrier to water and oxygen, thereby extending the shelf life of the product. Cold-formed foil blisters are produced more slowly than thermoformed ones.
